What to Do in Cebu Featured

Cebu was known to have a generally laid back atmosphere. So, its not surprising that most activities here are are not as adventurous as one might hope. However, things are slowly changing, and with new activities being introduced to the public every year, Cebu is becoming not only a vacationing spot but also an adventure destination.

What to Do, WHAT TO DO in CEBU

Diving

malapascua shark

The mother of all activities in Cebu. Even before Cebu's other activities were booming, diving has always been a constant draw for tourists and diving enthusiasts all over the world. Blessed with a very rich and diverse marine life, diving is among the most popular activity in the island. The most popular of diving spots is found in Moalboal, while locations such as Mactan and Malapascua are slowly catching up.

Island Hopping

banca

A unique experience by itself already. Island hopping is a term used by the locals to mean jumping from one island or another during a given span of time-usually on a single day. When you got 7107 islands to choose from, with Cebu having 168 of it, its not surprising that this is one of the more favorite past times of the locals when spending their day off from work or studies. Island Hopping starts when tourists or locals ride local boats known as "bancas" or "pumpboats" , which are in fact a boat with one or two outriggers attached to it. These outriggers are usually bamboo and are lashed tightly using nylon rope or marine rope. It may sound and look scary but they usually hold their ground. Riding the pump boats can be fun at times but it can be nauseating when the weather does not cooperate and you get big waves hitting you from all directions. Anyways, after riding the pump boats, the "captain" takes you to different islands of your choice. The popular islands are Hilutungan Island, Sand Bar, and Pandanon Island.

Hilutungan island is best for diving and snorkeling activities. The marine sanctuary here is astonishing to say the least. Literally hundreds of different colored fish come near you especially if you feed them Puso or rice. Just 30 minutes away from Mactan, Hilutungan island is a must go for tourist and locals alike.  Oh, make sure to bring money. Entrance fee could amount to 50 pesos per person.

Sand Bar  is a strip of sand in the middle of the sea. Nothing interesting when high tide kicks in, however when low tide comes, that strip of sand stands out- in the middle of the sea! it can be fun to just lie there doing nothing, and just seeing the waves from two sides smashing in to each other-priceless. Bring an umbrella stand if you plan to stay long here since there are no resorts, and cottages near here.

Pandanon Island is a good one to two hour banca ride from Mactan Island, and is actually near to Bohol already. Though how far the place is, it makes up for its beauty and pristine white sand. The place is a great place for family and friends who want to relax in a relatively quiet environment- not to mention a mini sand bar near the area.

Sky Adventure

skyadventure

A view from the tallest building outside Metro Manila, Sky adventures offers different activities for "thrill" seekers in their rides on top of the tower.  The company offers different rides ranging from the edge coaster, dubbed the "world's first" to the sky walk, in which you are walking on glass overlooking the view of the entire city. There have been a lot of mixed feedback regarding the rides, most of which i heard have been negative. However, this is still something new that is brought to the city, so trying at least once wouldn't hurt.  Just make sure to prepare at least 500 pesos because thats what is going to cost you- 200 pesos just for the entrance fee alone!

Zipline

Ziplining in ADventure Cafe Cebu

*So high up the the mountains you're able to literally touch the clouds(in Adventure Cafe Cebu)

Fairly new in Cebu, Ziplines are booming all throughout the Cebu Province. From what i gathered there are around 10 different sites, though only a few are more well known by the locals( I'm sure there are reasons why). For those people that does not know what ziplining is, according to Wikipedia, it "consists of a pulley suspended on a cable mounted on an incline. It is designed to enable a user propelled by gravity to traverse from the top to the bottom of the inclined cable, usually made of stainless steel, by holding on or attaching to the freely moving pulley."In other words, its a baby version of Bungee Jumping and Sky Diving.

Here is a list of Ziplining places here (will add more info and pictures)

1. Hidden Paradise -website: http://cebuhiddenparadise.wordpress.com/

2. Cebu Zip line Busai - Tel: 63 32 344-3028 Cellphone Number: +63 9088624276 / +63 9206539874.
3. K33 - website
4. Adventure cafe - website

So far, Adventure cafe ranks high in ziplining place you should go to in Cebu. Aside from the zipline itself, the cafe is situated on a peak of a hill overlooking Balamban. Its a nice and cool 18-23 degree celsius up there and the food is great-though i must warn you its not that cheap. A meal would cost you around 150 pesos. Zipline would cost you 75 pesos.

Waterpark

imperial palace

Waterparks are gaining popularity here in Cebu especially when Imperial Palace Resort introduced its mega size version of it here. Two popular sites are Imperial Palace Resort and the new Talima waterpark. Both are located at different place. More info can be found in their respective websites.

Drinking

Drinking in cebu

What other activity can you do during a night in Cebu? Drinking! As most of you will know, drinking beer here is very much heaven for people in the Western countries. For one, beer here will cost you less less money from what you might have spend in your respective country. Second, San miguel, world famous beer is produced in the Philppines. Third, do i need to mention that the variety of alcoholic beverages here is huge. and Lastly( though i do not condone this act) sadly, the law in the Philippines is somewhat lax and if you're a minor meaning you're less than 18 years old, you can still drink-most of the time they don't even ask you for an I.D.  I even saw parents giving their babies something drink so they'll stop crying and sleep. Ingenius.Really.
