In another effort to educate the staff on the different beverages offered, and on what goes inside special mixtures and concoctions, our Food & Beverage Director conducted training on select cocktails and drinks.
We had an entire ballroom to ourselves, where a bar was set up on the side. A special drink was flashed on a huge LCD screen and its ingredients enumerated. Finished drinks were then passed around for us to taste!
It was a great privilege to be able to undergo this training under this director, whose passion on beverage and concoctions were evident in the way his eyes lit up whenever he talked about each mixture.
Our F&B director is a well-travelled young Italian national who according to him – spent his training starting at bars. A short excerpt from his lecture made me realize just how passionate he was about his job. He said:
“Back when I used to do bars, I would go to work very early than what was required. And just like how a chef would go over his ingredients of his dishes, I would go over each mixture and each garnish of the beverages I would be preparing for the day.”
Okay, so he didn’t say it exactly like that. He said it better in fact, but it struck me as the lines of a person who loved what he did and who took great pride in his work.
I wasn’t able to take a lot of pictures as I was too busy tasting, but come see a few of the drinks prepared during our very first official beverage training!
Here are the shooters that could be made from the wines, liquor and liqueur that were available, that were to be served for the different days of the event.
Beverage 102 did not come long. It was probably in a burst of inspiration from my Events superior to educate me more on drinks unfamiliar to me, that I immersed in beverage inventory with Banquet Service for a week for an event.
Not wanting to miss the opportunity to learn, I did my best to ask the resident bartenders Paul & Jerry all there was to know about the beverages on hand.
I definitely have a lot to learn, and will continue to look forward to more chances to learning experiences such as these!
