how to speak Cebuano? a little disclaimer.
Hi, my name is Chris and i've been living in Cebu for God knows how long. I'm not claiming to be a professor or a teacher of Cebuano, and i'm not saying that i'm an expert either. Cebuano, as most will know is a dialect in the Philippines, and unlike Tagalog/Filipino, there is no formal training or education of the language. Usually, the dialect is taken up at birth and learned from then on. I know there will be a lot of issues that will spring up especially on grammar and spelling, however I am very much willing to change whatever mistake I've made. Anyways, to those who want to learn the language/dialect don't hesitate to comment the articles or message me here at firstname.lastname@example.org Have fun learning the language!
Update 2011: I've been busy with other things lately, and especially my new website (Your Top 10 Everything) however, i'll promise to update more and make it more "reader-friendly". I've noticed there's a few people interested in learning the language, and its pretty hard to make lessons if no one reads them. So i hope if you do get some learnings from my lessons, comment down below or like my facebook page! :)View items...
Transportation in Cebu
What to Expect
Getting around an urban/rural jungle such as Cebu can be such as hassle if you don't know your way. if you're the hardcore traveler, you'll have fun in the chaotic transport system that Cebu has to offer( Though way better than what Manila and probably India have). However, if you're like travelers that comes from first and second world countries, then you'll probably be disgusted with the system to the point you might be discourage to go around Cebu instead.
But please don't.
Cebu with all its marvels have a lot to offer to travelers that muster enough courage to go around the island[read other sections why]. Hopefully with this guide you'll have no problems finding and squeezing your way around.
Things to note when you're on the road driving, riding or walking
- Cebu, like most other regions in the country have a different way of looking at traffic lights. Here Green means "go fast" , Yellow means " go faster!", while Red means " You have 5 seconds to step on it!" So don't be surprise when you see a red light, and cars are still passing you by.
- Majority don't follow the pedestrian lane and often jay walk. if you're driving( if you're new to the Philippines, i suggest you don't), be careful of these people.
- Everyone swerves in traffic.
- Unlike most countries where honking your car's horn is seen as a sign of rudeness, in Cebu, its totally normal, and sometimes even encouraged to avoid accidents. Cars honk their horn to let pedestrians and cars changing lane that it is coming.
- Better to be a defensive driver when driving the streets of Cebu, side mirrors are often side by side to other cars in times of heavy traffic.
- Jeepneys, a major public transportation in the Philippines (See futher notes) will just stop at the side or even at the center of the road when they see a passenger wanting to ride.
- Peak hours are from 7 to 10 am in the mornings and 4 to 8 in the evenings.
Better watch out for people like him, jaywalking even though there is clearly a skywalk right behind him.
Cordova Reef Village Resort
Cordova Reef Village Resort in Cordova is one of the older resort in the area. Its a hugeresort, that caters to the more money spending tourists rather than the mass public.
It sits on a four hectare property of lush green, and a gigantic swimming pool. There are a lot of activities in the resort ranging from snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, and other
water sports. Although, the resort looks relaxing, and promising, there are mix feedbacks regarding the place. Trip advisors notes that the place don't tell you what the
surcharges are(the ++) until you realized when you're checking out that you are paying a hefty amount. This left a lot of past travelers disappointed and angry with management not resolving this issue. Moreover, some traverlers noted that the beach is
also not "swimmable" especially during low tide, when the distance between sea level and natural ground is just ankle deep.

Resorts in Danao City
Coco Palms Resort Danao
Relatively a new resort in Danao, Danao Coco Palms Resort just had its opening last May 2010. Even then, the resort has been getting a lot of positive feedback-probably because of its large area or the swimming pool right at the center of the resort. The beach part of the resort is quite interesting since the moment you step out of the "beach area" , you are instantly on the deep parts of the water. So easy to say its a great place for snorkeling. The food isn't cheap but i heard it tastes good. Entrance fee is 150 pesos per adult and overnight rooms is priced at 1980. Average food price is around 150-170 pesos per person.
The resort is located just along the coastal highway right before Danao City Proper. A good 30 minute ride from Cebu City Proper and around 45 mins from Mactan International Airport.
El Salvador Resort
The resort offers a great place to relax and enjoy the ambiance of nature. It has 39-units guest rooms, a fully-air-conditioned ballroom which is also divisible and convertible into smaller function rooms, tropical garden and open spaces for outdoor receptions, lagoon swimming pool with waterfalls, pool with an overflowing outdoor jacuzzi. COCO Bar & Restaurant, Buddy's KTV, Elsa Spa & fitness gym, F & B room service, Game/Volleyball court, automatic stand-by power generator, internet access, 24 hr. security.
The resort is located 33 kilometers north of Cebu City, particularly situated in barangay Sabang, Danao City, Cebu province, Island of Cebu. Around 45 minutes from Mactan-Cebu International Airport. Danao City's business district is just 10 minutes of an enjoyable motorized tricycle ride from the resort.
