Transport System

Jeepney-   The infamous jeepney of the Philippines, truly a one of a kind transport system. These are actually jeeps used by the Americans in the 1950's that are modified with an extended passenger accommodation. Well obviously now things has changed and though you won't find those 1950's jeepney, equivalents or similar ones are still there. A ride in a jeepney would cost you at the LEAST 8 pesos( thats around a sixth of a dollar)  and it increases after a couple of kilometers. Jeepneys literally stop anywhere, so whether you are at the center of the road or at the side, they will stop for you if you call them ( the sad thing about the Philippines transport system, i really hope this changes). When riding a jeepney you tell the driver where you will get off, but make sure that its part of the route of the jeepney, or else you will get no where. When arriving at your desired destination, you can have the jeepney stop by telling the driver "para" and tapping the side exterior of the jeepney.
jeepney
* the person at the back is what they call the "konductor" or conductor. This person is actually  a friend or a relative of the driver helping him out in collecting payments for the ride.

Taxis-  Flag down rate is at 30 pesos for the first 3 kilometers and you pay 2.5 pesos for every 200 meters thereafter. Don't pay taxi drivers "flat rates" which are rates that don't involve the taxi meter.  Taxi drivers wants you to pay flat rates since its usually double the price of what they get if they just put up the taxi meter. Around the city, and riding a taxi would cost you at the MAX a 100 pesos. Cebu city to Mactan would cost you around 150-200 pesos.

Tricycle- is a three-wheeled vehicle thats popular in South East Asian countries, with Philippines being no exception to it. Where Jeepneys can't go, tricycles dominate the roads. Its kind of annoying sometimes though when you see hundreds of them just swerving there way in traffic and most of these drivers if not all of them don't probably have any idea on road rules and etiquette.  Depending on the place and the distance, a ride could cost you as low as 10 pesos to as much as 50 pesos. Though not found on major thoroughfares, they're quite common on the small roads and provincial areas of the island.
